I mean, if there's ever a national reissue, chances are the theatres will get the same DCP unless Disney decides to issue a new one. Most of the information comes from the theatres themselves, or a quick e-mail sent to Disney marketing to get details. Disney's reissuing The Lion King to theatres nationwide next month for its 30th anniversary, it will likely be the DCP I saw last October as well, but I'll have to check when I'm there.Darn... I would have loved to have seen the 2016 DCP in 2023... though there are no Cinemarks nearby. Hey, if you ever know of another reissue where they'll use that DCP, PLEASE let me/us know!!
Where do you find all this super detailed info about the sources of the reissues??
It's a fairly inexpensive hobby to get into as LaserDiscs weren't as mainstream as VHS, so they sell for reasonable prices online compared to the folks who think they can offer an open clamshell for $500 because they read online that the Black Diamonds are worth boffo bucks. What's really going to get you is finding a working laserdisc player, with a functioning remote as well. My first player died on me about a year into owning it, and my second works fine, but the remote died about a year into that as well. I can easily buy another one online, but can't justify to myself some of the more exorbitant prices that even a mere Pioneer Laserdisc Player remote costs secondhand. As I largely use my LD player for playback and not so much the frame-by-frame that the remote comes in handy for, it's a lesser priority for me to get one.@Escapay: I'm really happy for you having so many versions. I've always wanted to have Laserdisc releases for some WDAS films. Maybe I'll be able to get them someday--hope springs eternal.
Plus, LD covers are gorgeous, I've bought a couple spares of titles I already own simply to frame the covers and mount them on the wall!
